John Maeida is impressed by digital imaging by Blaise Aguera y Arcas

… shouldn’t we be too? John Maeida (who wrote in Illywords #22, Kaizen) is the master of simplicity; he is Associate Director of Research at MIT’s Media Lab and President of the Rhode Island School of Design.

On the RISD blog, Maida writes that Blaise Aguera y Arcas “is a modern day Da Vinci of digital imaging that has proven that anything is possible”. Fast Company says that Aguera y Arcas “will transform how we experience visual data.” Clearly a digital artist to watch.

This Feb 2010 Ted talk (that got a standing ovation) is a presentation of Aguera y Arcas’s latest project for Bing that, amongst other things, integrates crowd-sourced imagery and video, and is a step beyond augmented reality in which the sky is – quite literally – the limit with the use of worldwide telescope!
