I have always wondered how, precisely recycle art, arte povera, or found-object work was intended to save the world. Or if it is intended to do so. Considering how much we consume, and how much garbage we throw out, artists can surely not use it all. So what is their message?
There is no one-message-fits-all answer. I asked Rodolfo Lacquaniti about his use of found materials when I visited him at his art park, the “Giardino Viaggio di Ritorno” in Maremma this summer. He explained it to me from inside an installation that is at the end of the narrative that he’s created on the grounds around his restored farmhouse in Tuscany (all done with the principles of bioarchitecture).
The revolution, for Lacquaniti, starts at the dump. The figures you see here have risen out of these materials and taken their first steps on their own. Speaking with him I realized that recycle art is a way of thinking, and that it conveys a message that is not just about consumption but about remembering that we’re part of a larger, universal whole.

Caro Rodolfo,in parallelo alla tua arte mi viene da pensare che i tuoi guerrieri fatti di armi riciclate sono come la natura che si ribella agli uomini avendo sempre l’ultima parola. L’uomo in realtà alla fine è la pedina più debole ma ancora non lo vuole capire. La vera rivoluzione ci sarà solo quando accetteremo questo

Come te, anche Il Frantio ogni anno apporta il proprio contributo alla riflessione traducendolo in eventi provocatori e allo stesso tempo suggestivi; esplorando il tema delle nuove emergenze planetarie e stimolando a ripensare il modo di produrre energia e di consumarla per muoverci, abitare, lavorare senza dissipare le risorse vitali e imprescindibili.
