History of Estonian Academy of Arts goes back to 1914, founded as Tallinn Industrial Art School. After Estonia’s re-independence from USSR, in 1994 Estonia became European Union member state, and in 1996 the institute was renamed as Estonian Academy of Arts and certified as a sole public-low Art University in Estonia.
Our institute is member of many european design associations, such as CUMU LUS (International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media), ELIA (European League of Institutes of the Arts), EAA E (European Association of Architectural Education), CIRRUS (Cooperation Network of Nordic Design Universities) and KUNO (Cooperation Network of Nordic Art Universities).

Estonian Academy of Arts is located in the city centre of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, the northerly of the Baltic regions in Northern Europe. The city of Tallinn had been known as the northern most active member town of the Hanseatic League and its old town has been appointed a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site since 1997.

Estonian Academy of Arts provides a wide range of degree education programmes in the faculties of Architecture, Design, Art History, Fine Arts and Protection of Cultural Heritage. With the aim to make the institute an international platform for advanced studies and research in Arts and Design, since 2007, we also provide International Master’s programmes in Animation (conducted by Prof. Priit Pärn, the world known Estonian animator), in Urban Study (conducted by Prof. Panu Martti Lehtovuori, Finnish architect and the expert of Urban Studies) and in Industrial Design (conducted by Prof. Masayo Ave, Japanese architect and designer, the founder of Haptic Interface Design). These programmes are fully conducted in English and widely open to international applicants from all over the world.
